REVIEW: The Body Shop Camomile Makeup Removers + GIVEAWAY

One thing I'll do more as I go back to beauty blogging is doing product reviews and I think that this is a first this quarter, and a first for this category!

As a heavy eye makeup user (I like claiming that haha), it takes time to apply layers and styles of makeup on the eyes. But it takes as much time removing it especially when using hardworking products (water-proof, long-wear, etc). But unlike the usual facial products, I learned the hard way that the eye area is the most sensitive part of the skin. And so I take so much time (and deliberation) on choosing and using gentle eye makeup removers for my full eye do. I'll share my latest discovery below.

REVIEW: Pantene 3 Minute Miracle

Lately, I have been worrying about my hair because aside from thinning (ugh, genetics!), it has become extremely damaged and sensitive due to all the coloring (plus retouching), post-trauma from bleaching and curling (now I'm slowly cutting the affected area off) that I  do to my hair. Well, I consider half of my hair practically dead but I don't wanna shorten my hair easily so i just deal with it through products that can help restore the problems of split ends, dryness, roughness, etc .

So when I got this news from Sample Room that Pantene is introducing a new version of the Total Care conditioner which I had used back in college when I had that really long straight hair which needed intensive and preventive products for damage management, I definitely wanted to try it. I didn't have any problem with Pantene before even with my oily and dandruff-prone scalp (I have always used Head & Shoulders as my shampoo then I use other conditioners for special needs) so it was interesting to test the new bigger promise by Pantene-  a 3-minute damage control.

30 Things of 2014

2014 was a big year for beauty and with launches, relaunches and limited editions left and right, online or department store level, it gets exciting but also a bit overwhelming. Sometimes, I still get confused and amazed at the same time whenever I visit a cosmetics store, but below are my favorites from last year that are unique, hard-working and special in their ways!

Orange is the New Black

Ever since I bought the MAC Morange and Sounds Like Noise lipsticks a year ago, I've been interested in this shade. Whether with a plain eye makeup or a full on smokey eye, orange has become my go-to color and for me, is the new classic/staple. Now, I added more to my collection and below are my reviews!

The Affordable Lipsticks

My theory is that the more pigment there is in the lipstick and it doesn't dry the lips too much, then the price goes up. Unfortunately, based on experience, even in the premium department stores, there are limited options when you're searching for both true comfort and color payoff.

However, there are some affordable brands which have a pretty good level of pigment already, with nice selection of colors, AND with great comfort / wearability which is clear with semi-matte and glossy lipsticks that are available in the nearest department stores or beauty distributor.

Happy Skin Summer Collection

Following the well-received Happy Skin launch five months ago, more and more women have now realized that to look beautiful, you must never compromise skin health. Sure, beauty trends come and go, seasons color our faces in different hues, lips pucker up in different colors – but overall skin? Well, it’s most beautiful when it is happy.

Happy Skin co-founder Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez believes that this is the core of their booming beauty business. “More and more women are discovering the beauty of skincare makeup,” she shares. “They’re falling in love with our philosophy – makeup that cares for your skin – and products!" -founder Rissa Mananquil-Trillo happily explains: “They now echo our belief: truly good makeup should be your ally – not your enemy – in making you look and feel more beautiful! Fact is, all the best skin care products in the world will be put to waste if you don’t use good quality makeup that also takes care of your skin.”

L'Oreal Paris True Match

In the L'Oreal TVC, Jennifer Lopez said that True Match wasn't her first (meaning, foundation), but for me it was and have been ;) Seriously, ever since college (or early high school), up until now,  this is my go-to and everyday brand in terms of tints and let's see why...

Kanebo Freshel BB Creams & Foundation

I've been reviewing a lot of makeup and bases in this blog but not so much from Asia. Find out more what makes them different.
Let's start first with BB creams which became really famous in the region. I have never tried Kate/Freshel before by Japanese brand Kanebo so this one gave a first impression on this premium Japanese brand.

Freshel BB Creams (by Kanebo)
SRP: PHP 1000+
Availability: Leading Department Stores nationwide (e.g. Rustan's)

L'Oreal Paris Lucent Magique Concealer Pen

"Lucent" by definition means giving off light, translucent, luminous and clear. Let's see if this new corrector pen stays true to its name and 5 target areas (lids before eye shadow, over under eye area, around corners of the nose, fine expression lines and contour around lip area), as the BB cream did.

L'Oreal Paris Lucent Magique Concealer Pen (6J195 Light)
SRP: PHP 545
Availability: Leading Department Stores

(+) Texture is semi-liquid, not really like a concealer cream or stick.
After blending
(+) Color is pinkish cream which matches my arm's skin tone on a bluish light
(+) Coverage is not too thick but it definitely lightened the arm's skin with a translucent luminous light finish.

Applying on under eye, lids and contours of nose,
(-) The pen is hard to control so make sure you twist it very carefully and do it in dots.
(+) However it's very easy to blend
Using fingers to blend (by dabbing)
(+) compared to the right side, clearly, I corrected my reddish/pinkish skin tone on a yellowish light
(+) a luminous finish can be seen
(-) which means that coverage is average. It really can't conceal that much in the sense of application, only in illusion. If you have really dark circles, this might not work so you might have to double the coverage.
(+) imperfections, lines dark circles were hidden with the illusion of a clearer lighter skin
(+) lids clearly brightened also which is perfect prior to eyeshadow application
(+) Aside from lightening, you can see micro-shimmers (shining like crystals when joined together) which hide lines and imperfections upon hitting of light on the surface - the illusion of a perfect skin right after
(+) But also, if you can notice below (especially on the right side where I left an area bare, it made the eye or the area of application pop because the illusion of light. This is perfect for people who have deep-set eyes.
(+) True enough, with this effect, it can be perfect for contouring purposes especially on lips or even on the nose area as it will create a lifting effect
Since it's kind of really white on my face tone, I used the Lucent foundation and powder (lined up for review!!) on top as you can see below which gave a better healthy-looking color with good coverage, but not cancelling out the luminous and light effect.
Truly magical and true to its promises! Overall, I recommend and will repurchase this again especially that the price is not that bad! Of the concealer pens, this is one rises above all because of its special lifting/highlighting effect  that could stay for a long time. For me, this can replace my concealer but for those who have really dark circles, you can correct using concealer then top it off with this magical pen!

Hope you liked the review!

L'Oreal Paris Color Riche New shades

I had a phase wherein I would look for the most colorful, intense and pigmented matte/semi-matte lipsticks but through time, I realized that they're just cosmetic - intense matte ones would dry my lips really hard, or some would give half-baked colors. I have been a user of Color Riche lipstick for a long time and I have always adored its color payoff given its price but now, L'Oreal brings news to all lipstick lovers and I'm so excited to share it with you.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick

If there's one thing I can do with my eyes closed or whenever I'm stuck in the car or cab, it would be applying foundation, lipstick and mascara; but not eyeshadow. The outlines of the eye are quite hard to memorize especially when using liquid-based products. And it needs blending, mind you. But here goes Bobbi Brown with its effortless, high-impact and long lasting creams in sticks that could be the best friend of any busy hardworking person in the Philippines. Why? Know more below.
